My wife and I...There is another side to this story. My wife and I are not wealthy. I retired from the ambulance in 1990. Hurricane Iniki destroyed our two room cottage across from the beach in 1992. Our State and County Goverments essentially did nothing to help when our insurance company, the largest in Hawaii, went bankrupt and paid us nothing. FEMA loaned us enough money to rebuild. Before Iniki we had no mortgage. Now we do. Our TVR is our only income, plus our savings, which are slowly dwindling (faster lately!) We live on $12,000/year. Now our goverment wants to take that away from us too. I resent that, and I resent all you holier-than-thou types who lump us together with giant corporations. It is the giant corporations, in their fear and greed, who are behind this drive to eliminate one of the only small, low-impact, home based businesses in Hawaii which most exemplify Hawaiian Hospitality. Even Debra Kuhio (Kaumualii's wife) had what was essentially a bed and breakfast!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7875069982976812251.post-3246914757385554202009-01-07T11:44:00.000-10:002009-01-07T11:44:00.000-10:00Innocent until proven wealthy!Innocent until proven wealthy!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7875069982976812251.post-11729662309626739012009-01-07T11:43:00.000-10:002009-01-07T11:43:00.000-10:00one is always free to bring it up with elected off...one is always free to bring it up with elected officials and county organs as to how well or poorly they operate and do things such as how densely they cluster together visitor areas and where.

Yeah, right. Tourist can feel comfortable participating in the stripmining of the soul of a place. The greed works both ways, the pushers and the users. As a mainlander who spent a lot of time on Kaua'i in the 70's and 80's, I think the tourism business is obscene -- the pimping of a place and its people to line the pockets of a few.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7875069982976812251.post-12123744970531238542009-01-06T15:30:00.000-10:002009-01-06T15:30:00.000-10:00nice story, esp with the pdf links. complimentsnice story, esp with the pdf links. complimentsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
