Three German engineers were just on island consulting for it. Give the PL&P and PacWest people a run for their money.

Haven't heard much from PacWest recently. KIUC is about ready to buy another biodiesel generator for $70+ million and they have no biodiesel source what with PacWest doing NOTHING.

I'm rootin' for Lindy from Indy and the PL&P boys.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7875069982976812251.post-10963958925934166952010-11-26T16:59:02.395-10:002010-11-26T16:59:02.395-10:00They are in a state (or county) of denial, and bes...They are in a state (or county) of denial, and besides something like 'peak oil' is not considered an acceptable topic for polite conversation. JoAnn believes in it, but even she is not confident in talking about it. Mainly the politicians don't want to scare the voters and scare the money away in talking about something like that. But it's true the unions wanting construction and the developers wanting to build are totally deluded about what lays ahead sooner rather than later.

Re: As Adam pointed out, high-priced oil has tremendous implications for Kauai, where the economy is based on tourism and virtually everything, including the fuel oil for our electricity, is imported. The time to start planning for such an upheaval is now, he said, in order to ease the pain of economic transition.

Yet not one politician is talking about that, he said; heck, it’s not even a topic of discussion.

Instead, when you look at the candidates’ contributions and platforms, it’s as if they believe it’s going to forever be business as usual, a steadily growing stream of cars filled with workers and tourists, merrily waving and smiling at the candidates holding their signs.

It's almost surreal.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7875069982976812251.post-56324720205826647152010-09-22T08:31:14.217-10:002010-09-22T08:31:14.217-10:00fyi, JoAnn Yukimura lists "energy and food se...fyi, JoAnn Yukimura lists "energy and food self-sufficiency" on her platform...

http://joannyukimura.com/

Are you familiar with her positions and/or previous work?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7875069982976812251.post-85276670222946432972010-09-19T19:03:38.744-10:002010-09-19T19:03:38.744-10:00Yeah, global demand and difficulty of extraction w...Yeah, global demand and difficulty of extraction won't have much of an impact on oil prices. Not almost, ..."It's almost surreal."

Not almost, it is pure surrealism. Surrealism in its dictionary definition: "the 20th century literary and artistic movement that expresses the workings of the subconscious with fantastic imagery and incongruous juxtaposition of subject matter."

It is watching the wide horizon darken with a coming tsunami, while on the beach, people eagerly scoop up fish stranded by the withdrawing water.Dawsonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7875069982976812251.post-19946660615372698702010-09-17T13:39:38.983-10:002010-09-17T13:39:38.983-10:00When things do crash, all the greedy decisions won...When things do crash, all the greedy decisions won't save them

Yeah, right. So few people have long term vision and do blissfully go along their days ignorant of the power plays going on behind the scenes, and people making decisions for their own material greed not caring as to how it fucks over other people or our environment.

When things do crash, all the greedy decisions won't save them and currently what 1 person in 50 could sustain themselves from the land, if that. If your peak-oil dystopia came to pass, then the tourist industry and related businesses would go away, land prices would crash, and you could finally have your self-sustaining agrarian Hawaii utopia.

How much "planning for such an upheaval" is required? Hardly any at all, I'd say.

Such an outcome is unlikely, and completely ignores the unknown variable that technology has always presented throughout human history, but if you were right, it would seem to be something you ought to welcome.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7875069982976812251.post-78405627291657973332010-09-17T10:11:35.051-10:002010-09-17T10:11:35.051-10:00What makes you think ships and even businesses and...What makes you think ships and even businesses and houses won't run on nuclear power in 75 years?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7875069982976812251.post-56892468699943352852010-09-17T09:28:06.929-10:002010-09-17T09:28:06.929-10:00If one candidate campaigns on economic growth and ...If one candidate campaigns on economic growth and another campaigns on hunkering down against the supposed end of free society as we know it, guess which one will win (thank God).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
